The pattern is from Crabapple Hill.

The pictures are colored with Prismacolor pencils, then brushed with a fixative so the book is washable. Then I embroidered each page and made a few interactive bits, put borders around each pages, layered batting between the pages and binding around the pages pairs. Three of my quilts were among the 300 hung for the show. This is one of my favorites—pattern and fabrics were designed by Edyta Sitar.

The latest editions are two table runners that I recently made. The first is made of rather folksy prints.
My newest Grandson, Nicolas Jonathan Jaeger, was born on February 9, 2016. I was just finishing his quilt and took it out to California with me when I went to spend some time with him and his mom and dad. It was such a wonderful visit. Nico is a very sweet baby and I spent hours cuddling with him.

I love the huge, colorful florals and the geometric designs that accent the floral colors so well.
When I was in the process of purchasing my long arm quilting machine, I put the top together, thinking it would be a good practice piece when my machine arrived. When I started using the machine, I had more current projects to quilt and this top was forgotten for a time. Now that I have time to go through my "collection", I have rediscovered it and finished it.

My dad was a rose lover--he grew hundreds of beautiful blooms, especially when he retired and moved to Oregon, so this quilt is a special tribute to him.

The pattern I used to quilt it is also roses--perhaps you can see it better on the back:
She went with me to choose the fabrics and the pattern and then I went to work to create the quilt.

The back of the quilt is lovely too.

Boo, the cat, reportedly always looks for the coziest place in the house, and was very happy with the new addition!
I used a pattern called In the Meadow as the basis for the birds, although, with the help of a friend, I shrank the patterns by about 80%. I also added the half square triangles as sashing between the squares.
The borders were quilted using my long arm machine and then quilting in the bird squares was done on my regular sewing machine.

The whole quilt:
The creative ladies there present a new project for each class and provide a kit of pre-cut fabrics, so we can just sit and sew and chat...

On Sunday we made a table runner with pieced hearts in lovely themed fabric. I added a border to mine and then quilted it using a Valentine hearts pattern. It's the perfect size for the top of my piano!
I recently completed a quilt for my grandson Emmett. It's a twin bed sized quilt and it celebrates his love of animal, especially farm animals.

The animals were hand appliqued and then the sashings and borders were pieced. I quilted it on my Statler (long arm), using a program that stitched farm animals.
Googly

Another new quilt--finished today. I enjoyed making this pattern from Stephanie Prescott at A Quilter's Dream.

It is a large lap quilt--60" x 72", made for 30 fat quarters in ten tonal groups of light, medium and dark. It was challenging to cut the various pieces, since there are so many different sizes in each square.

I used a simple circular pattern to quilt this piece, so as not to detract from the "googlies".

I love the way this quilt turned out. It is among the most "modern" of the quilts I have attempted and all of the half square triangle element were intimidating. The kit was from Craftsy, but I made just a few modifications.

I used a pattern with lots of points to quilt this one, to echo all of the points in the pattern.

This is one of my entries in the challenge:

There are several metallic elements in this layout, featuring my beautiful new grandson.
The fiber bow has a silver strand, there is a little white metal safety pin in the journalling tag, and I painted a streak of glue above the picture and added some tiny silver seed beads to add an accent.Gwen Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00634043896220040764noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5663555102808027536.post-1291327586082275602014-02-09T13:37:00.000-06:002014-02-09T13:38:16.059-06:00Wedding quiltJonathan and Angelica were married in August 2013. After they announced their engagement and then chose a wedding date, I began thinking about making a quilt for them as a wedding gift. I asked them what kind of a quilt they would like and what color scheme they would like. They told me that they would like a "modern" quilt and that they would like to have color they were planning to use in their wedding: gray, fuchsia and purple.

I began looking for a pattern, and went to Blue Underground, since they have a great selection of modern quilt patterns. I also started looking for fabrics and when I went to Paducah, KY for Quilt Week in April, I found some beautiful hand dyed cottons that seemed the perfect thing.

I finished the quilt in time to ship it to California so that it would be there when we arrived, with instructions that they couldn't open it until we were there, and they complied. As soon as they opened it, Angelica ran up to put it on their bed. I'm so happy that they love it!Gwen Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00634043896220040764noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5663555102808027536.post-70573189344162098972014-02-06T09:23:00.001-06:002014-02-06T09:30:35.448-06:00Fido Fest Raffle quiltMy sister-in-law has a dog (and the occasional cat) rescue in Amite, LA. She and her husband have been hosting Fido Fest in the Spring for the last few years to raise funds to keep their rescue efforts going. Last year I made an appliqued quilt that was a raffle prize at Fido Fest, and it was quite successful.
This year I decided to send a quilt again. It's a pieced, lap sized quilt, using lots of "doggie" fabric that I collected during the year. Hope it will bring in lots of dollars to feed the puppies!
I finished a quilt this Fall for the bed in the guest room, just in time for Hetty's visit from Holland and then Rob's visit for the holidays.
I got involved in a couple of other projects after I got home, but finally finished the quilt in October. I really enjoy making quilts for the little ones. I can be creative on a little bit smaller scale than a regular quilt.

I made this quilt for a colleague at work who had a baby during the summer.

I started by using by Accucut machine to cut "tumblers" out of a bunch of fat quarters from a Connecting Threads collection called Laundry Basket. It had lots of bright, but fairly neutral color, since I didn't know if the baby was going to be a boy or a girl. After arranging rows of tumblers on my design wall to distribute the colors, I sewed them all together, added borders, quilted and put on the binding.

I thought it would be fun to pick up on some of the little birds that were on the fabric and add a few as applique on the quilt top. I added three little birds, sitting on branches, scattered on the quilt top.Gwen Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00634043896220040764noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5663555102808027536.post-83084726718925154702013-12-26T11:11:00.000-06:002013-12-26T11:11:56.856-06:00Four Square FarmhouseThis lap quilt was my Christmas gift to Jim this year. It's the first quilt I've made for him. He frequently complains that he's cold this winter, so I thought that a quilt to cuddle under while he reads or watches TV would be just the thing. I got this kit on the Illinois-Wisconsin bus exchange tour that I enjoyed with Lee at the beginning of November.

The four square farmhouse blocks were fun to do. The cutting was easy, and they went together quickly. I love the batik fabrics. There are lots of subtle color combinations in each fabric so it is easy to make the fabric combinations for the various blocks.

Chris enjoys sailing on Lake Michigan in the summers, so when I saw the kit for this quilt at the Madison Quilt Expo, I thought that it would be perfect for his son. I love the various blues of the Kaffe Fassett fabrics and the large blue ric rac making a wave under the boats. The sailboats are appliqued. I quilted it using a design called "Puffy Clouds."

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I have been making more quilts that ever this year, having the availability of my Statler Stitcher to help with the quilting. I decided that my blog is the best way to track my projects. The projects created this year will be in no particular order--I'll post about them randomly until I catch up. My goal is to share my joy in each creation.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Today's subject is the quilt I made for Nash, that will be his Christmas gift from me this year.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Nash LOVES trucks, cars, all kinds of vehicles. He reminds me so much of his daddy, in that way as well as in many others. One of Chris' favorite books when he was little was Cars and Trucks and Things That Go, by Richard Scary. We spent many hours together reading it and looking for "Gold bug" on each page.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">When I as at the Hancock Fabric in Paducah, KY just a few days after Nash was born in 2012, I saw a kit for a child's quilt, made with fabric that had prints of the Richard Scary characters and Busy Town. I knew it would be perfect for Nash when he was a little older.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">For this quilt, I followed the pattern that came with the kit to make the top. I was a little concerned about the sashing triangles, but found that they were not difficult to construct and went quickly because the pieces were large. It went together in just a few days.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I didn't have backing fabric, so when the top was completed I drove out to Quilters Destination to look for an appropriate fabric, and found the perfect thing--construction vehicles in the same color group as the fabrics for the top! After quilting and sewing on the binding, the finishing touch was a label that I printed on fabric and sewed on the back.
I especially love the wide lace bow.
This project is my interpretation of a project from the June Bad Girls Kits.

Gwen Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00634043896220040764noreply@blogger.com0
